Thanks. Is this OSS? Any experience in using it? It seems that it contains a virtual appliane - do I need to have another machine managed just to manage other machines? Who manages the managers!

Ok - the link you sent had a link for a virtual appliance, and that shipped with the Enterprise edition. That is not required. I have installed the basic Open Source Hyperic HQ, and it works well. The UI is a bit confusing, but it brings up the basic info on the running VMs, which is good.

Thanks! This is getting me closer to managing a boat-load of VMs!

If you are using VMware server, the tool that it comes with has a GUI that helps you control the machines. Is that what you want? I'm assuming you are looking for a web-based tool, though?

You can use vmware-cmd from the CLI and that will let you check on the status of your running machines, as well as the status of machines that are not up.
