Good wiki software

By Prateek Srivastava - Mar. 09, 2008

For a long time I had been looking for a good wiki software. media wiki is good but not for the faint of heart. Requires the wiki markup language to write (excluding plugins)
deki wiki is good but works on mono.

Can anyone recommend good wiki software with capabilities of dekiwiki but in PHP/python?

What criteria are you looking for? Does it need to be in-house? Does it need to support wiki-markup or will other linking practices work? Does it need to be made available over the web?

Take a look at Google Sites. For basic wiki functionality, it is pretty good.

I've had good luck with twiki, as compared to media wiki or docu wiki. I have not tried deki wiki.

I would really look to see if Google Sites suites your needs. It is super-easy to use and nothing to manage or maintain!

You can also check out the Mediawiki page (http://ostatic.com/103423-software-opensource/mediawiki) on OStatic and see the different alternatives there as well.

Please stop suggesting GooG apps as Open Source....They are not...In fact they are anti open source.....they stifle and kill open source

@adelph.us - Google Apps is not open source, but a good offering nonetheless. Google has done a ton for Open Source, including AppEngine, which is on Python. If you have had a chance to look at sites.google, which they acquired from JotSpot, you will see that it as a true wiki offering that is very easy to use, so thank you very much, but it is a valid suggestion.
