Having problems to install openoffice on my mac

By Riyaz Ahmed - Apr. 22, 2008

I've downloaded the open office app. from http://porting.openoffice.org/mac/download/ but everytime I try to start it - it hangs and gives me the X11 window. I am not being able to install it even when I delete the application and re-download and re-install it. Help!!

Couple of questions for you to be clear.

    1. are you running an intel Mac or PPC?

    2. Which package did you download? the Aqua or X11 port?

I would recommend downloading the aqua release for your particular OS. Here's the link to download it for the Intel Macs with Leopard http://porting.openoffice.org/mac/download/aqua-Intel.html

There's a separate one for Tiger, but I would highly recommend upgrading to Leopard and then downloading OOo. I use it extensively and it works great.

Thank you. it works now but it still keeps crashing from time to time. I think I'll have to get a crack for the Microsoft Office :)

Well good luck with that... Microsoft Office will never be better than OpenOffice. Mac- version of Microsoft Office sucks. Especially PowerPoint.
