How do I access my Mac File System on my VM?

By Chuck Ben - May. 10, 2008

I setup a Windows XP VM on Fusion but can't access my OS X documents folder, file system through the XP interface. Any ideas/tips on how I can do this?

A simple way to do this is to drag & drop the files you want to use in your VM directly into the Fusion window.

Note: You need 'read & write' privileges for your VM

I'm sure you can configure it to directly read the os x file system, but I haven't looked into it. Would love to find out how...

Unfortunately, I think drag and drop is the only solution. I don't think the file systems are integrated unless someone knows something I don't...

Thanks for your responses. I was looking for something more than drag-n-drop because that becomes painful to manage if you're working on multiple files across both systems concurrently. Appreciate the responses...

Its simple! Click on settings in Fusion. Click on shared folders and click on the '+' button at the bottom of the screen. This will allow you to specify new shared folders. you can elect to have 'write' privileges as well. So no need to save your docs on VMware - you can save them directly on your Mac and always access them from Fusion.

@drupaldd - Thanks much!!! It works and really simplifies my life and makes Fusion that much more useful now that I don't have to worry about maintaining a file system in 2 different places!!
