How do I remove search providers on firefox ?

By Anna Medlin - May. 08, 2008

So, firefox's default search providers list has 7 providers - Google, Yahoo, Answers.com, Wikipedia, eBay, Amazon and Creative Commons. I would like to remove a few. How do I do that?

If you are using Firefox 2.0...

    Then follow these steps:

    1. Click on the search dropdown list button in the toolbar

    2. Click "Manage Search Engines" option

    3. Select the search engine in the "Search Engine Management List" Window

    4. Click "Remove"

    5. Click OK to close the window.

The search engine will have been removed from the list now.

Please let me know if this worked for you.

Doh! I was looking under preferences, and would always access the drop-downs with they keyboard shortcut (command-K) and then (command - up/down)!

After you click "Manage", you can go and get more search engines. I'm not sure if you can easily add ones that are 'not supported', but Mozilla keeps a list of providers that you can then add in. If MySpace was there originally, you should be able to add it back in, assuming they are ready for the version you are using. HTH.

In the search box at the far R of FF's window, just left- (not right-) click the little icon of the current search provider. A drop-down menu appears that lets you remove or add any search services ("engines") you wish.
