You could do it online. A Google should get you lots of site to do a speed check.

But incase yu are looking for a tool to check yur network card speed yu could use an excellent open source option Freemeter (during a download).

Well, you can always run a ping test to see what your timings are. You can also go to http://speedtest.net - that includes a ping test and also has a neat sharing option. It's amazing to see the number of tests being conducted around the world (assuming their stats are accurate)!!

Network speed is not the same as bandwith.

I think the question is about measuring the actual speed of the LAN.

I use speakeasy.net which is similar to speedtest.net but with better results. There seems to be a bit of a lag with speedtest.net. With speakeasy I get nearly 21Mb on the download test while speedtest shows about 18Mb.

Network speed also depends on the connection which you are using to connect to internet.

    you can use ping option.

Try to trace to your site from different systems

Visit UberBandwidth.com. There is a speed test link on that site.

If you are wanting more bandwidth and great connectivity for $3.99/Mbps (min 10).

Contact me. I work for this company. I will hook you up.
