I have been looking at single site browsers. What has your experience been?

Has anyone played with these? Do these make any sense? Where is this trend heading?

I've played around with Fluid for Safari. Interesting, but didn't find much use for it. My dock is already pretty cluttered, so adding another one seemed pretty pointless. Then again, I'm sure once applications start enabling features that can be used with SSBs (e.g. notification popups, etc.), things might become more interesting.

The good part about fluid.app is that it opens links in new browser windows that are then fired off using your system default browser.

I have used Mozilla's Prism and have not been too impressed with it. It seems more to be a FF browser without the tool-bars and status bars. Another issue was that since it was a plain browser window there was no way I could change the network proxy settings (even after trying my hands at the configuration settings).

Anyways Prism will still have a very long way to go before it stands out.

But I was definitely impressed with Adobe AIR. It will not be more of a browser but does provide a host of features like a offline application would give. Some the apps like the googleanalytics, twhirl and Alertthingy are the usual. I think AIR as a runtime platform provides more flexibility to a developer to work with.

It would be interesting to watch these unfold over a period of time. But I am sure they will soon be the hottest affair on the desktops. The idea would be more to merge the line between desktop apps and online browsing. Things are already spilling out towards the desktop from the browser.
