Is it just me or is Firefox 3 crashing all the time?

By Richard Kim - Jun. 18, 2008

Its been less than 24 hours since I started using this - slick interface and much faster (THANK GOD!) than 2.0 but it keeps crashing - this has happened 4 times already.

Anyone else experiencing this issue?

Works fine for me. Try uninstalling all previouse versions of FF then a fresh install of FF3.

I just installed FF 3 and it works like a charm. The bookmarks, saved passwords, and even the Browsing History data migrated seamlessly.

Uninstall and be sure to reinstall 3.0 - you wont regret it! :)

Here's another post I found about this - http://techdigest.tv/2008/06/is_firefox_3_cr.html - it seems like I'm not the only one...

I have reinstalled it and it seems to have fixed the problem for now

FF3 is also CRASHING on me ALL THE TIME! This is nuts. Running in either XP-Pro SP2 or Vista-32 or Vista-64, its crashing regularly on all three machines.

I'm going back to FF2 until they work out the bugs!

    bummer.

it happened to me as well..

    and it was so annoying!

i think you have to install it and delete all your personal data, (yes that means bookmarks, skins, addons, etc)

but once you do that and install it again, then it should work.

On the other hand it never crashes in my Ubuntu 8.04 installation on the same pc!

    I don't know what's going on...

I have 3.0.1 running on XP and it is crashing left and right. For some reason right now it crashes everytime I try to access the Nero website. I've seen so many similar posts while looking around the web in frustration, and it seems to be a problem regardless of the OS you are using. Mozilla fell short with getting this thing properly tested.

I cant believe I am saying this, but I cant wait for IE8 especially how much FF3 crashes. Its truely sad cause I was hoping to have it be my end all web browser. Opera runs nice, but the pages dont load the same or have support for browser pluggins like RoboForm. Hey FireFox team EAT A D*CK, tired of your Uber browser crashing all the time.. And I know it crashes a shit ton on all platforms.. including Mac

The "Download Embedded" add-on has emerged as a major cause of problems for FF3. If you have this extension, UNINSTALL "Download Embedded" from FireFox.

Scores of people, including myself have seen an immediate end to the crashing and utter frustration we encountered after the launch of FF3, just as soon as we uninstalled this poisonous extension.

They continue to offer the add-on through the Mozilla site, but they need to pull the thing until the author has time to properly resolve whatever inherent issues are causing the crashes. The add-on worked fine with the second generation of FireFox, but until they fix this bug, it's like a death sentence for FF3.

I'm using xp and the firefox 2 did really fine for me until it doesn't open anymore so I uninstalled it and got the ff3, but now it keeps on crashing all the time, I think every 80 secs. I have read in the other forums that it maybe the cause of the flash player, I upgraded the flash player and until now it didn't crash. I hope this solved the problem.

It works very good for me, both on Windows and Linux. I'm suggest you to see on your installed plugins list, maybe some of this plugin is unstable with new Firefox.

Not crashing, per se, but hanging on XP -- the display will stop being refreshed, leaving old junk from other tabs, etc., showing. Then I have to restart it to clear it up. Also, it sometimes goes out to lunch and never comes back, sucking up CPU and requiring that I use TaskManager to kill it.

    Hey! I think I found a solution.

Try updating your java runtime environment.

My firefox has stopped crashing after I update my JRE.

To do this, visit http://www.java.com and click on Free Java Download button.

Firefox 3.0.1 crashes on me about 5 to 10 times per day. Using Vista Home Premium. I'm a web developer doing lots of ajax, flash and shockwave. Never had any crashes EVER with FF2 but FF3 is so buggy it kills me. Hmm what browser to try next?

I've had lots of crashes with FF3. Tried lots of suggestions but nothing seemed to work. Then I installed XP sp3.

I have had only 1 crash since then but I am sure I caused that crash by leaving my laptop on a soft pillow. It predictably overheated and crashed.

If you're experiening crashes running XP and have not installed sp3 I suggest you give it a try.

Thanks for the comment of 12th Sept. Will try getting SP3.

Firefox 3 is crashing an enormous amount. Especially from Gmail and Youtube and Facebook. So it's related to more complex sites I think that use AJAX.

Pretty bad timing for Firefox because this opens the door for people to switch to Chrome or go back to the latest MSIE.

Crashing A LOT. almost every time I click on a PDF link, but also on Ajax pages, Java pages, or basically anything a little more complex that HTML1.0. I'm no lambda user, I'm a heavy user but that's not an excuse.

Frankly I was so amazed by FF2 which never crashed with up to 20-30 tabs open at the same time and a good dozen of add-ons of all sort.

I am very disappointed by FF3. It is obvious that it wasn't tested properly before going out. This is the kind of method Microsoft uses. I expect Mozilla to be a bit more professional.

What I find even more disappointing is the total lack of recognizing from Mozilla about this issue. Just type "firefox crash all the time" in google and see how many users are affected.

I want to see a clear page on Mozilla's web saying "Troubleshooting Mozilla Crashes" where we could submit dumps, and find a FAQ, and a list of situations, web pages, add-ons, etc that are known to cause crashing.

No need to reinstall your firefox 3

Just simply use this command in the "Run Box" (Start/Run)

    "c:\program files\mozilla firefox\firefox.exe" -P

Then, a profile table will appear which you should create a new profile, apart from the current "default" one. Then Start your firefox again on that new profile, you'll find that you're having a totally new firefox without any uninstallation.

    Hope this help.

    Cheers
