Mount a linux drive on XP and Vice Versa?

By Nadir Hussein - Jul. 05, 2008

I am using two o/s ( Xp Sp 2 and Ubuntu 5.04) on different drives. The issue is that when am using one, i cant see the other drive.

I use linux to surf the net because i understand that its not easily attacked by virus but after i have downloaded some notes and programs i'd like to turn back Xp to access those programs reason being am comfortable using XP which is where the problem arises.

As a result, I am forced to dowload them to flashdisk so that I can access them from there. Would appreciate any help because this is a tiring process i have to undergo everyday.

You have 2 partitions on the same drive? Is that correct? Your machine is set up to dual boot?

If they are on separate machines, both of which running, you can use Samba to mount your drives, or even set up a FUSE to access ntfs drives.

If they are on the same physical drives, under different partitions, did you install Ubuntu after XP? Do you remember if you saw the XP drive in the install options for Ubuntu?

You can use the following sites to get a Windows driver that will allow you to mount ext2 and ext3 filesystems as Drive Letters under Windows.

If your windows partition is NTFS, to access them from linux, you would need ntfs-3g. Please google up "ubuntu ntfs" for more info on installing ntfs-3g.

If you need to run windows inside ubuntu, please try www.virtualbox.org
