According to this article, it seems that Apple might not be willing to allow the proliferation of Open Source apps for the iPhone. The article speculates that Apple has exclusivity in place for existing vendors, and wants to court those vendors to continue to deliver apps. This doesn't seem to make sense, since Apple realizes the power of building on top of OSS (their Darwin core is a good example) and the ability to court developers. But, could that be changing?
