Open source online collaboration suite

By John Kash - Mar. 11, 2008

I am looking for an open source online collaboration suite. I want to allow all members of a particular team/dept to sign on and all manage and edit a document simultaneously like zoho or google docs

Ideally, it should have wiki capability as well. Something that is easy to use and doesn't require any programming knowhow.

Activecollab is something I was looking at but it is rather complicated and doesn't have wiki functionality. Any other suggestions?

Thanks in advance

I've used ActiveCollab back when it used to be free. It currently ships with source code, but is no longer free! OSS but not FOSS.

Not sure about wiki functionality, but you can check out alfresco. When I used it, I found it to be good, but heavy weight, and required a fair amount of management - it is a full blown content management that does aid collaboration.

Alfresco - Enterprise Content Management may be overkill for this. It is java based and uses tomcat. The good part is that you can mount a drive via webdav too, which is neat for non-tech users to easily share a folder. You can version-track, etc., but I don't believe it has built-in wiki capabilities as far as I can remember.

Go with Google docs and sites my friend. Great integration and functionality - its free like OSS and Google does a great job of updating the feature set. They did take a while to launch 'Sites' but its here and its great!!
