Quicktime AVI file support on Mac Leopard

By Jesse Babson - Oct. 23, 2008

I recently re-installed leopard, and now Quicktime will not play audio on AVI files that used to work before. I sometimes get a warning saying QT is missing components, but none of the components seem to help. This used to work pre-re-install, and I have tried re-installing QuickTime, but to no avail.

Help!

This is probably a missing codec issue.

Clean out (by saving elsewhere) the ~/Library/QuickTime folder and the /Library/QuickTime (for your user and all users (assuming you have admin privileges)). Then restart and see which codec it drives you towards.

    Install those and repeat.

Thanks! I did do this. I have installed every codec that QuickTime had to offer, but to no avail. I have also re-installed QuickTime, and deleted both those folders.

Does the file play in your DivX player, which you should get after you install the DivX codec.
