There are several examples of this - when value is being created, there is always the opportunity to earn revenues from it. Take a look at companies like RedHat, Novell, Sun and others. They all 'sell' Open Source solutions, and they all have acquired Open Source projects (JBoss, GNOME, MySQL, VirtualBox, etc.).

So, there is money that can be made here.
