Regarding the licensing of a software

By Shree Harsha - May. 07, 2009

Hello everybody,
i recently paid Rs6000 INR equivalent to 122.222 US Dollars on an open source project but didnt know it was one until i was told by my friend..

Apparently, the person from whom i bought had downloaded the project named jadhoc implemented by the people of the Bremen University, Germany.

It was sad to hear that the actual project itself is freely available for download at http://freshmeat.net/projects/jadhoc after i paid for it..

Now i need to know whether i can legally take action on him from whom i bought the project..?

Please let me know..

Ouch. What did you pay for? The software may be available for free but there may be fees for customization, installation, documentation, etc. I doubt you would have any legal recourse unless you had a contract in place and they violated it. I am not a lawyer, but you may want to speak to one if you do decide to get a refund. You can also directly ask them what they charged you for!

Thank you for the reply.. i am afraid i received nothing more than the source code with a pdf(again, got by googling).. No there was no contract since it was a pretty unofficial deal..
