Tree structure in FreeMind?

By Anna Medlin - Oct. 01, 2008

Some Mind mapping tools let you generate a tree-structure document - a bulleted/indented list, basically, with a basic hierarchy. Any idea how I can get this to work in FreeMind?

I do not think this is possible in FreeMind. I have used NovaMind, which is not free, and they have the capability, but FreeMind only shows you the Mind Map view, AFAIK.

NovaMind is slick, but a little too slick for me. Too much going on. FreeMind is nice and clean, and once you start working in that mode, you really will not revert to the text-based hierarchical mode.

After saving your file i.e. tree.mm. Go to the File menu>Export>Save as HTML.

It is then rendered as a cool tree hierarchy that I actually use to save specific types of files. BTW, if you look at the source view you can grab some pretty cool javascript to use as AJAX like functionality on webpages.

There is this wonderful software by Marek Jedlinski called KeyNote (http://open-source.onestop.net/2006/09/keynote.html)

which at the first instance does not look to be great but when you start using it just cant live without. I know it does not solve your problem but incase you would like a tree based hierarchical notes organiser this might be a good start. Someone has also started up where he left and is working on

    keynote-nf ( http://code.google.com/p/keynote-nf/

    keynote-new features).
