    Try virtualbox (http://www.virtualbox.org/) and install there you prefered linux distribution.

    You might look at http://www.pendrivelinux.com.


    They have some very lightweight cookbook solutions for running Linux under Qemu. Don't be scared by the name, they offer more than just ways to run various Linux distros from a USB drive.
