What are the benefits of openid?

By Chuck Ben - May. 07, 2008

Everyone is touting the "single sign on" aspect but I can easily do that by maintaining the same email, username and password across all the sites I register on. What if someone gets a hold of my openid? It sounds like I'm really screwed then...

Not entirely clear yet...Thoughts?

I probably wont use openid to log into my bank accounts but you can definitely use it for web 2.0 sites/apps like yelp and twitter.

The main benefit is that once you have authenticated with an OpenID provider, you don't have to go and recreate your information on every website. This is mainly used for sign on currently.

You might want to read the wikipedia article on OpenID for more info.
