What's a good opensource doc management and sharing application?

By Naman Aggarwal - Oct. 18, 2007

We're a team of five that need to share, annotate and track multiple documents on an ongoing basis. I've tried Active Collab which is good but it is a paid service. Basecamp, while super-effective, is also a paid service. Any recommendations for an Open Source app that supports 5+ users and doesn't require me to pay $x/user/month...

The free version of ActiveCollab is still available. Check it out - 0.7.1, I believe.

Found It - Thanks! Still prefer Basecamp though. Let me know if anyone has any suggestions for alternatives for Active Collab.

Use Google Docs. It's absolutely free and I am sure you will get all the features.

    Try google docs @ http://docs.google.com

    Google DOCS is the best.

If you expect your team to grow beyond the current 5 members I would reccomend a dedicated KMS (Knowledge Management System) such as Alfresco or KnowledgeTree with the optional live change-tracking plugins for MS Office, Open Office or KOffice enabled.

On the other hand, in my experience the only reason for a team of 5 not to use Google Docs would be a specific decision to avoid using Google for whatever reason.
