WHY IS MEMBERSHIP REQUIRED?

By Froggy Amphibian - Jul. 15, 2008

Why must a person with a question about something quite simple to you guys have to become a useless member if they know nothing about computers?

No disrespect. You are all probably working really hard behind the scenes or screens there, however, perhaps an initial 3 ordinary low level questions could be asked quite quickly and simply. With something like a short response; a redirection to another provider or to answer that more comprehensive question you must be a member. Just a suggestion.

I'm full of suggestions. I guess you guys are saying 'so are we for you'. No hard feelings.

You raise a good point, Froggy. We require membership to post a question as one of the ways to prevent spammy content. In addition, we use it as a way to inform people when answers have been posed. Users have a record of questions and their answers for future reference. We are going to be releasing features that will let you pose questions to a target network of trusted peers so you have a better chance at finding what you need.

Please do send us any and all your suggestions! We really do value it. You may do so by clicking on the Feedback link in the footer, or by sending us an email directly at feedback[at]ostatic[dot]com.

    Thanks!

Is that @ ostatic.com? Thanks for your polite response. Like the way you picked up the lingo aspect of my comment straight away.

Have you ever thought of an open door programme for Seniors or those who missed the boat on New Technology? e.g. Open door. Sit down as a student. Pull up computer. Open up lid. Like a pencil and paper, then set about demonstrating each step just like ABC in Prep School. I don't want to know how the computer works. I just want it to work. I know how to use a pencil. Treat the computer as a pencil. Typing can be learn as you go. The end result is what is sought. *Voice instruction possibly* and/or as well as step by step as you go. Tell me about a cursors function. Is it like my pointer? How to save a document, in other words how do I put my paperwork away off the desk and into a Filing Cabinet. What is a file and why do I need it? Is that where I put my paperwork? How do I send an attachment? Step by step. ABC. Not hard. Simple as it goes. Not lingo or high fallutin talk. Basic Prep School Computer System. There is a basic assumption that people know something about computers, it is in fact a wrong assumption. Take advantage of the gap. Very fundamental, basic, simple, ABC style learning for the elderly or beginners. Now that would be useful. Not hard to do. Just reuires someone to think as a new starter. NOT ME!!! Someone who knows enough to know what someone wouldn't know. Hope this suggestion is useful and money making, together with helping the rest of us doofus idiots out here. (Attractive setup could be a Old Door opening up, where upon, butterflies otherwise cursors move from step to step.) Wacky, hey. That's what I thought Bill Gates might think as well. So I haven't suggested it to hin. Anyway, he is too busy giving away money right now. OR working in the back room beating Yahoo before they overtake him. Shifty guy.

It has been an observation that Technical Computer Books are of little or no value to a beginner and in fact are confusing causing despondency.

    Thanks for reading.

BTW Spam is a real nuisance. I guess that means junk mail or someone clogging your system with crap :) I hope this isn't considered Spam.

    Have a good day.
