Better Compressions Available

There are better compression algorithms than RAR and equally better file managers than that in the open source world.


7zip can very easily replace WinRAR!

rar binaries are available for linux and bsd, but rar format is proprietary and winrar is a classic shareware model, not open-source. It shouldn't be called an OpenSource Application in Ostatic.


On the other hand the far file-manager is now opensource, but windows only. NC clone.

Opening .r01 .r02 .r03 .r04 etc. files?

I just downloaded a few torrent files (movies) and the contents of the folder have multiple files with the .rxx extension. I realize that these are compressed .rar files but can't find a way to extract them all into a single, combined file that would allow me to play the movie.

I have Google'd this but haven't been able to find an appropriate response for the mac. PC users can download WinRAR and extract these quite simply from what I understand
