Basic screenshot software is really handy to have on hand, even if you don't use it often. If you rely on screengrab tools often, however, you know how important it is to have software with lots of tools and features. No matter what your screen capture software needs are, you're sure to find something you like in this list of the top six open source options.
recordMyDesktop - Here's a desktop session recorder written in C and with a choice of two front ends -- pyGtk and pyQt4. Besides screen capture, this tool will also record just audio through ALSA, OSS, or the JACK audio server. If you need to produce files in multiple formats, then skip this app because your only options with recordMyDesktop are theora for video and vorbis for audio, using the ogg container.
Your help would be appreciated. Some forums say that keeping the Home button and Sleep/Wake (On/Off) key pressed simultaneously will save the screenshot in the photo albums but this doesn't seem to be working for me.
TIA!
Hello. I am looking for a person who can program a Windows-based Screen capture tool that can perform the following tasks?
1. be able to run based on a user-defined hot key combination
2. be able to auto scroll and capture the entire vertical window (normally a browser) that has focus. The scroll should be automatic and the resulting image may be short or tall.
3. be able to save the file to a user-defined location on the local hard drive with a user-defined filename (such as 11.bmp)
4. be able to save the file with user-defined format type (BMP 256, JPEG, TIFF)
That is it.
Another topic that I would like to incorporate is the ability to localize the software based on a list of phrases and words. So it could be re-complied and released in a different lanaguage release.
I can offer payment for such a project, and would like the programmer to propose a price.
I live in Dallas, Texas, but am willing to work with someone anywhere.

I on hooked on MS Paint and SnagIT for editing screenshots by cutting and moving parts of an image, comment, draw, etc. to create mockups - Yes they are hideous but its very quick & VERY effective!! I just can't seem to figure out how to do that with a mac. There are several apps that let you take screenshots (incl. Command-Shift-3 on Leopard) but nothing that lets me move parts of the image and draw stuff like you can do on Paint/Snagit.
Any ideas??? I REALLY REALLY need this....
I'm looking for an open source app. that has snagit like functionality. I love Snagit but it isn't open source. CamStudio is open source but it is only for video screen capture. Any other screen capture tools out there?
