LinuxWorld Gets Underway in San Francisco

The LinuxWorld conference kicked off in San Francisco today, and OStatic will be providing reports throughout the week. Among news already coming out of the conference, Hyperic has introduced a way to manage XenServer from a central dashboard, and Unison is showing a lash-up that provides PBX features, groupware and more for a single Linux server. This year's conference also includes some interesting public demonstrations of new technologies overseen by conference organizers. Here are some of the early announcements.


GigaOm: How Is Your Cloud Performing?

Cloud computing and the whole trend toward outsourcing compute power are hot topics, but how do you know when there is a problem out in the cloud? Open source cloud management software vendor Hyperic has launched a new web site called CloudStatus, designed to let you monitor how particular clouds are performing. Interview: Hyperic on Scalability, and Monitoring Performance

Hyperic, an open source web infrastructure management software provider, has been in the news lately. The company?s flagship product, Hyperic HQ, was a finalist in the 23rd Annual CODiE Awards. Hyperic HQ specializes in monitoring applications for IT departments, and the company recently announced test results showing Hyperic HQ doing very large scale monitoring in conjunction with Sun's MySQL database. OStatic checked in with Stacey Schneider, Senior Director of Marketing for Hyperic, for thoughts on how open source software can play a part in highly scalable monitoring deployments.
