Zenoss Enterprise 2.5 Released, Now Features Amazon EC2 Monitoring

Open source network monitoring software vendor Zenoss announced the release of Zenoss Enterprise 2.5, the company's commercial version of its flagship product. It sports several new features, most notably Amazon EC2 monitoring that provide users with dynamic snapshots of performance and the ability to drill down on performance issues with inside the instance monitoring.

Zenoss Enterprise 2.5's focus is on scalability and security with an eye toward future datacenter platforms and technologies. Additional new features include:

The new Community ZenPack Contest captures the cloud computing craze. Zenoss in the Clouds ZenPack Contest is aimed at users who want to create modules, or ZenPacks, to allow Zenoss to monitor cloud infrastructureand service providers, or deploy cloud-based technologies.

Zenoss, the open source network monitoring software vendor, is hosting a free daylong event at the Hyatt Regency and Columbus Convention Center for its current users and anyone who wants to know more about the project. There will be plenty of hands-on product training, followed by a LinuxFest pre-party at a nearby watering hole.

I caught up with Zenoss VP of Community, Mark Hinkle, to find out more about this event and what's in store for the future of Zenoss. Here's what he had to say.

Zenoss Releases Enterprise 2.4 With a Slew of New Features

The folks at Zenoss have been busy. The open source network and systems monitoring vendor just released Zenoss Core 2.4 last month and announced today that its Enterprise edition has a new version out as well. Zenoss Enterprise 2.4 sports several new features and improvements, and also a little added incentive that many IT managers will have a hard time not giving a second look.

 



Zenoss 2.4 Released Today With New Network Monitoring Features

ZenossOpen source network management system Zenoss has released Zenoss version 2.4. It sports a number of new features, refreshed documentation, and more than 400 bugfixes to improve overall stability. In addition to the system's core monitoring capabilities, the Zenoss community has created over 70 plugins called ZenPacks that provide additional functionality, statistics, and data.

Virtualization Emphasized in Upcoming OSS System Management Apps

We've written before about the challenges that proprietary virtualization playersᅠ such as VMware face from open source virtualization applications. The problem for the proprietary players is that the free, open source virtualization offerings are now very good tools, and are increasingly built right into popular operating systems. Aside from appearing as utility-like modules in operating systems, though, virtualization is becoming a central part of open source network and systems management platforms.
