Microsoft Delivers Windows Server 2008 Hyper-V Virtualization (RTM)

There's no stopping the virtualization race. Microsoft has just released to manufacturing WIndows Server 2008 Hyper-V. The Release Candidate of its? virtualization application is found here.? Hyper-V is hypervisor-based virtualization software that allows you to run multiple operating systems concurrently, including Linux, on one installation of Windows Server.

Is there a partnership or acquisition in the works involving Red Hat and Oracle? The grapevine apparently claims so and we speculated about an Oracle acquisition a while ago--still think it makes sense.....

Red Hat Enters the Virtualization Race

As virtualization technology becomes more pervasive and starts to make its way into the operating system, it seems that more and more vendors want to get their slice of this particular pie. Now Linux vendor Red Hat has joined the fray, announcing its own embedded hypervisor at its annual user conference.

Red Hat Settles Patent Violation Lawsuit

Red Hat issued a statement this morning that is has settled a patent litigation lawsuit with Firestar Software and DataTern, saying it protects Red Hat's current customers and sets a precedent for the open source community at large. Firestar initiated a lawsuit againt Red Hat in 2006 over its newly acquired JBoss technology, claiming patent violations relating to Hibernate 3, a high performance object/relational persistence and query service.
