The Open Source Business Conference (OSBC) is rapidly approaching, to be held March 24th and 25th at the Palace Hotel in San Francisco. The conference will include much discussion on the future of open source. In preparation, OStatic has been running a series of guest posts on this theme, featuring thought leaders from top open source projects. We checked in with Dries Buytaert, founder of the Drupal content management system, and co-founder of Acquia. Martin Schneider, director of product marketing for SugarCRM, weighed in on the open cloud, and Novell VP Justin Steinman wrote about open source and mass customization. In this new post in the series, Brian Gentile, CEO of Jaspersoft, discusses the consumerization of information.
One of the big topics to be discussed at the upcoming Open Source Business Conference (OSBC), March 24th and 25th at the Palace Hotel in San Francisco, will be the future of open source. In preparation, OStatic is running a series of guest posts on this theme, featuring thought leaders from top open source projects. Last week, we checked in with Dries Buytaert, founder of the Drupal content management system, and co-founder of Acquia. This week, Martin Schneider, director of product marketing for SugarCRM, weighs in on the open cloud, and how SaaS, open source and dynamic platforms are converging. Here are his thoughts.
This week brings some interesting new reports on open source adoption in enterprises, providing more evidence that the economic downturn is boosting many open source product categories. BusinessWeek has a big story out on cost-conscious companies turning to open source, ranging from ETrade to the Los Angeles Times. Meanwhile, new survey results illustrate a trend we've written about before: open source moving up the software stack in enterprises.
I have used Sugar for its contact and leads database extensively and its great! We have a client who is looking at developing an inhouse email campaign app and we are in the process of looking at Sugar to see if its email (mass mailing, newsletter) campaign module is a worthwhile choice.
Any experience with this and how does it compare to the paid services like Campaign Monitor, Constant Contact, Vertical Response, Jangomail, etc.)?
This is a real pain because there's no way to modify the text or the link in the admin panel. Any help would be much appreciated
The Sugar plug-in for Outlook works great, but I recently switched to a MAC and started using Thunderbird as my mail client. Am now looking for a plug-in that will really make my life a lot easier!
Hi - we're currently using Mantis for bug tracking (about 10 developers). Mantis doesn't have any integration with a test plan management tool yet. I've seen SugarCRM do bug tracking, but not sure if that will be overkill. Basically, I need a tool that will enable me to link up a test plan case (something like testlink) with a defect tracking system like Mantis. Any ideas?
