For years now, Dell Computer has experimented with shipping computers pre-loaded with Ubuntu, and Dell also just announced a long-term Linux-focused agreement with Red Hat. Now, Dell--the world's number two PC maker--is seeking community input for the design of an Ubuntu-based laptop aimed specifically at developers. The initiative is dubbed Project Sputnik, and is yet another way that Dell remains open to Ubuntu-based computers.
This week the Ubuntu Developer Summit is going on in Oakland, California, and Mark Shuttleworth and others have been filing some interesting reports coming out of the conference. According to Shuttleworth, today will be "Cloud Day" at the meeting, with speakers including Richard Kaufmann, CTO of HP Cloud, Randy Bias of Cloud Scaling, and Mark Collier of Rackspace. Perhaps the most interesting points coming out of the summit so far, though, have to do with new market share claims for Ubuntu.

Guys I have been using Ubuntu for sometime and it is excellent (for a user like me!). However, I want to know if I could find a full fledged cloud-based alternative for GIMP. I have seen some applications that work totally on cloud and do a lot of work pretty smooth, but they don't really replace Ubuntu totally. Could you please suggest something?
Recently I needed to work on an Ubuntu machine. Everything was fine till I tried to play YouTube. The videos simply did not run on it. Am I missing something? I am using Firefox. I really need to know it since as a media person I do depend a lot on YouTube.
