Luminotes Wiki Now Free As In Speech and Beer

Luminotes

Luminotes is a terrific Web-based personal wiki that helps you collect and organize information. It's great for project planning, book writing, or as an in-basket for random data you want to hang on to. It doesn't require any special markup skills so Luminotes is a great collaboration tool for people with all levels of computer experience. For solo use or for working offline, there's a desktop version that runs on Linux and Windows.

Licensed under the GNU/GPL, Luminotes has always been free as in speech but now it's also free as in beer. Dan Helfman, the project's creator, says dealing with recently implemented U.S. sales tax laws is too much of headache so he's decided to eliminate monthly subscription fees and charges altogether. The desktop version and online service will continue to be supported "for the foreseeable future."

If you want a notebooking application that's dead-simple to use, yet more robust than a simple note-taking app, have a look at why Luminotes personal wiki might be just the ticket.

Zim: A Wiki For Your Desktop

If you're looking for a way to take and organize notes, hardcore Linux users will tell you that Vim or Emacs is the only way to go. While they're both excellent solutions, neither are for the faint of heart. There are plenty of note management options out there -- Tomboy and BasKet, for instance -- but why not ratchet things up a notch and create a digital journal instead.

Upgrade MindTouch or the Penguin Gets It

Penguins are everywhere in the open source community. Linux users display them as avatars, software vendors incorporate them into logos, and live ones even turn up at industry events. Open source collaboration software vendor MindTouch has come up with a way to recognize people's love for the adorable feathered fowl and do something to help protect its population along the way.

Every MindTouch Deki Open Source user that upgrades to either Commercial version (Standard or Enterprise) will have a donation made on their behalf to the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) to save an endangered emperor penguin.

In Need Of Some Assistance.

I have been researching JAMWiki for a while now, and due to incomplete documentation I am unable to get some questions answered. If any of you guys know, let me know. I don't expect one person to know all the answers, if you can only answer one it will be appreciated.

1. Does it have blog functionality?

2. Can the content be exported easily to other content management sites?(i.e. Sharepoint)

3. Does it have the ability to mark documents as confidential, with different status (i.e. complete, in progress) and with different priority?

4. Does it allow importing of external documents to create a new document or to add as a new version to an existing one?

5. Does it have the ability to form groups like project groups and teams to collaborate on the team?

6. Can it force users to follow a certain teplate or standards for writing?

7. What type of information is maintained or can be maintained for each document?

8. How many plugins are there for the wiki currently? (+/-)

Thank you

Daisy Wiki

I am researching Daisy Wiki for a company who might implement it.

But there is some questions that need to be answered in order to compare between different wikis. Any input on these questions will be appreciated.

1. Can edits, views and other types of activity be logged and reviewed easily?

2. Can Content be easily stored and backed up?

3. Can blogs and chats be stored?

4. Can blogs be monitored?

5. Can blogs be reviewed before being published?

6. Can activities be tracked by groups and individuals?

7. Can the content be exported easily to other content management sites?(i.e. Sharepoint)

8. If blogs and discussions are supported then can they be referenced in articles?

9. What are the space limitations? (i.e. Page limitations)

10. Ability to mark documents as confidential, with different status (i.e. complete) and with different priority

11. What type of formatting is allowed? Are there any formatting restrictions?

12. Does it allow importing of external documents to create a new document or to add as a new version to an existing one?

13. Does it have the ability to form groups like project groups and teams to collaborate on the team?

Thanks.

Good wiki software

For a long time I had been looking for a good wiki software. media wiki is good but not for the faint of heart. Requires the wiki markup language to write (excluding plugins)
deki wiki is good but works on mono.

Can anyone recommend good wiki software with capabilities of dekiwiki but in PHP/python?

Mediawiki plugin for Drupal

I am working a drupal powered application and would love to get Mediawiki integrated into the mix.

Is there a plug-in that is available (or other comparable alternatives). Also, can anyone point me to examples of drupal wikis out there?
