WSO2's Data Service solution is an extremely simple and elegant mechanism to take data and make it available as a set of WS-* style Web services or as a set of REST style Web resources. As of now it supports relational data, CSV & Excel spreadsheet files as data sources.
The developer only needs to enter a parametrized query and the rules for mapping the results into an XML descriptor - the system takes care of managing everything else. These queries can cover multiple data source types, making once heterogeneous & disparate data to be returned from a single service call.
The resulting services & resources can be secured or delivered reliably using REST security, WS-Security and WS-ReliableMessaging as needed. Throttling capabilities will ensure the service consumers will not exhaust the back end data source.
On administration front any standard SOA governance solution can be used, thus giving all the necessary security controls and management enterprise IT administrators desire.
