Goodbye MobileMe: Funambol Offers Free Mobile Syncing for Life

by Ostatic Staff - Jan. 14, 2011

Open source mobile messaging vendor Funambol gave current and new customers a nice surprise today: free lifetime accounts at the company's wireless cloud syncing service myFUNAMBOL. The service syncs email, contacts, pictures, and calendars between your mobile device and computer and supports all major smartphones including Android, BlackBerry, and iphone. If you like the benefits of Apple's MobileMe data syncing service but don't like the $99 price tag, myFUNAMBOL might be the answer.

"Following the success of our Lifelong account for ScheduleWorld users campaign, we decided to drop the 90-day limit for ALL the my.funambol.com users," writes company president Fabrizio Capobianco. "This means that all the current users account have been turned into permanent accounts, and new accounts will be permanent as well! If you don't have an account yet, signup now or download the Funambol app from the app market and signup from inside the application."

Free myFUNAMBOL accounts come with a catch -- albeit a small one if you're not using the service to sync critical data. myFUNAMBOL will stay in beta for the foreseeable future so users may encounter glitches and bugs along the way. On the other hand, Capobianco promises additional features are "coming soon," and users might get a chance to play with some pretty bleeding edge technology. If you're on the fence about whether to give the service a try, take a look at why our own Kristin Shoemaker called myFUNAMBOL "truly useful."
