Mageia 2 Beta 2, Still No Live Images

by Ostatic Staff - Mar. 16, 2012

Mageia 2 Beta 2 was released yesterday with the declaration "near the goal." They say "only one and a half months til the final release of Mageia 2." Mageia 2 is in version freeze and developers are concentrating on bugs. However, there's one major bug that continues to plague them.

There is only one more developmental release scheduled before final and the team is still struggling to produce a live image. They are trying to switch from initscripts to systemd and Dracut for producing initrds. So, while this little snafu was to be cleared in January, it seems to be persisting. It's becoming more and more possible that Mageia 2 will have to be released without a live CD version. While that's not a major issue really, it is a bit inconvenient.

According to Distrowatch.com, Anne Nicolas posted, "Major new features: stable glibc 2.14.1; the latest pre-release of Linux kernel 3.3-rc7; a pre-release version of PulseAudio 2.0 has been included; the NoMachine NX libraries for remote server applications are included in version 3.5.0.11 using the patched and redistributed version from the x2go project; KDE 4.8.1; GNOME 3.3.x, Shotwell replaces F-Spot as the photo manager..."

Developers have until April 10 when the RC is scheduled for release to fix this issue in time for a thorough testing. Final is scheduled for May 3. Cross your fingers.
