openSUSE Back on Track with 12.2 Beta 1

by Ostatic Staff - Jun. 07, 2012

After a bit of delay, openSUSE 12.2 development is back on track. Two weeks ago development was derailed by server issues, slipping the release schedule by a week. But have no fear, openSUSE 12.2 Beta 1 is here.

Jos Poortvliet announced the release yesterday and said some of the new things include GIMP 2.8, KDE SC 4.8.3, GNOME 3.4.2, GCC 4.7, GRUB 2, LibreOffice 3.5.4.3, and Linux 3.4.0. The list of known issues is quite small, but these include:

* Booting a system with separate /usr partition leads to a kernel panic
* Install from the DVD with "Install from images" enabled fails.
* When doing a "minimal text install (no X server)" the X server is still installed.

The remainder of the release schedule includes two release candidates followed by the public release next month. Release Candidate 1 is due June 14 and RC 2 is scheduled for June 28. The Final release is planned for July 11.
