openSUSE 13.1 RC1 Arrives for Testing

openSUSE 13.1 Release Candidate 1 arrived today for testing. There's only one more developmental release before it's all over, so now is the time to test and report those bugs. 140 bugs were fixed during openSUSE's Hackathon, but there is a brand new control center to test, among other things.

Jos Poortvliet announced the release saying, "Grab one of the images and help us test!" The new control center and Btrfs are of special interest. Poortvliet says 5000 more folks are testing Btrfs since the beta was released. "There is still more work to be done, but Btrfs should be a safe choice for openSUSE 13.1 users and a good candidate for default filesystem for the next release."

This release brings KDE 4.11.2, GNOME 3.10, Linux 3.11.3, GCC 4.8, Xorg X Server 1.14. KWin's Wayland, Weston, and KScreen are among the new goodies and returning favorites include Firefox updated to version 22 and LibreOffice 4.1. Other new features include security options and performance improvements.
