Sure Enough, Salesforce Acquires Dimdim

by Ostatic Staff - Jan. 06, 2011

Back in November, we took notice of the acquisition rumblings surrounding open source online conferencing software maker Dimdim, noting that cloud computing titan Salesforce.com was the likely buyer, and today that exact acquisition was announced. Salesforce is buying Dimdim for approximately $31 million in cash, net of cash acquired. The buyout is a homerun for Dimdim, which we've always liked at OStatic, but is--as we noted in November--another example of open source leaders coming under the control of proprietary software companies. That was a trend that took on steam in 2010, as Sun Microsystems and Novell were bought out.

GigaOM has an analysis of the Dimdim buyout. Check it out here.
