Gang activity is present all over the United States, a very well-known and dangerous
gang around is known as the Bloods. With a 49% increase from 2011 to 2012 in violent crimes
according to the National Gang Center; innocent bystanders are often the victims of the
crossfire between their famous rivals the Crips. On this episode of The First 48, an innocent
young couple was the latest victim in the Bloods v.s. Crips saga. The father of five was
brutally shot down leaving over 50 shots fired luckily his girlfriend was saved walking away with
nothing but a graze of a bullet. At first, the detective in charge was mistaken that this was an
initiation for the gang however, due to the number of shell casings and shots fired she soon
recognized that this was a targeted attack. On the other hand, looking into the father of fives
life behind the scenes he would be the last target for a gang shooting. After reviewing and
analyzing the video footage at the gas station in which the incident took place, the detective
was able to use the eyewitnesses to identify the shooters and drivers at the scene and with the
help of the gang unit, made a positive identification on the suspects. At first, the suspects were
hesitant to give people up but the driver who was not affiliated with the gang told police that
the shooting was a planned targeted shooting but they shot the wrong person; they mistakenly
shot the father of 5 instead of a rival gang member making it personal but against the wrong
person.
