America Needs Better Gun Control
On average there is more than one mass shooting every day in America. This is horrendous, shocking and completely out of order. Gun violence is a growing issue in America and little is being done to resolve it. Imagine you were eating at a restaurant, going for a walk at the beach or even sitting in class while anyone near you could be carrying a loaded gun, would this make you nervous? It surely would make me very on edge. However this is completely normal for Americans as their government gives citizens the right to own and carry guns. This is ridiculous, handguns need so much more control because their only purpose is to kill people! Out of all the developed countries, the US is the most violent by far, mainly because Americans have such easy access to firearms. Why has America allowed their citizens to carry a weapon so deadly, so freely? Why is this issue not being looked into more? Why are these devastating incidents happening over and over again? I believe that if the US has better and tighter gun control laws then so many valuable lives would be saved.
One of the main arguments why America needs better gun control is that the US has so much more violence because they have such easy access to firearms. Countries that have stricter gun laws have far, far less crime and violence. Surely stricter gun laws are a lot better than death, destruction and danger? There are 664 million civilian owned guns in the world and America owns almost half of them. This is outrageous. The huge pile of guns in that country are like an invitation for disaster. Some may argue that civilians own guns for protection and self defence but too many own guns for the completely wrong and disgusting reasons like murder. In 2016 there were more than 11,000 tragic deaths as a result of murder or manslaughter involving a firearm, since then the number has increased dramatically year by year, why has America allowed these heartbreaking events to happen? If the US had tighter gun laws then so many innocent lives would be saved! The gun laws are so laid back that the US almost allow anyone to own a gun no matter how sane the person is. I would not feel safe in this country. Firearms do not only allow people to kill one another but they also make it easier to kill themselves. A catastrophic 63% of all US gun deaths are suicides. And sadly half of all suicides are committed by the use of a gun. If the US tightened their gun laws they would be able to stop many devastating suicides from happening.
After all of these violent and horrific shootings, America has done nothing to stop them from repeating. I believe that the U.S is not trying hard enough or doing anything to resolve these gun related deaths. In 2017 there were 377 mass shootings, if you were in charge would you do something to fix this? One particularly awful event in America was the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting. This was when a 20 year old named Adam Lanza brutally s...
