Amy Lowell once said, "Poetry and history are textbooks to the heart of man". Lowell is trying to say in this quote that the words a person uses to describe something or someone is coming from their heart. You can tell the personality of a person by the words they use. Poetry is something that can be interpreted in many different ways. History is based upon events that happened in the past, which may be heroic or emotional. He never wanted to really take on responsibility because he knew that there are people that are more fit for the job. There is nothing he can do to make everyone love him.
