672 words - 3 pages

The controversy of gun violence in america is in an all time high, things like school shootings and other mass shootings are making everyday citizens scared to even send their children to school. In order to change and better this country the government has options it can install in order to help the citizens feel safer, such as creating a large federal database that tracks all guns that are being purchased and also keep records of the person purchasing these weapons. That database can then flag citizens who either have not followed the rules in order to purchase the weapon or have a history of mental illnesses making it easier for their monitorization.
To resolve the issues of unwanted mass shootings the government can create a federal database which tracks each and every gun being sold. This database would keep taps on the distributor as well as the buyers by placing undetectable and unremovable detection chips and serial numbers on all weapons as they are being manufactured and made. This will insure the monitoration of the weapon and who they are with at all times. With this the lowerization of crime rates will plummet substantially helping others. This will allow for a situation like this to never happen again, “Being shot—ambushed the way I was—not expecting it, that man took my life from me. I could no longer be a policeman.” as said by Sergeant Thomas Lake a police officer who suffered from a sudden attack by an unknown suspect. Things like this could be prevented with the help of the federal database and these monitored weapons
Furthermore, the Federal database will not only track and monitor the weapons but also flag citizens who either have not gotten their weapon legally or have a history of mental illness. Statistically when asked most people will respond saying that mental illness is the number one leading cause to mass shooting. In truth that is false and only a handful of mass shooting cases were caused by mentally ill people who go undiagnosed, such as ...
