On November 17th, Mr. Dussel, a dentist, moved in to the "Secret Annex". He drove Anne crazy because he would get up early in the mornings and make tons of racket, so Ann plotted daily on how she would get back at him. Every day, Meip would bring books, food, ans clothes to them. On Cundays, they went down to the private office to listen to the radio, though Anne was always worried that someone would hear them. After they had been in hiding for nearly a year Anne celebrated her 14th birthday. She recalled it as being the strangest birthday of her life. Finally, after nearly a year and a half Peter became more talkative, and he and Anne became friends.Anne's diary ends on August 4, 1944. All of the occupants of the "Secret Annex" including Mr. Koophuis were arrested and sent ot German and Dutch concentration camps. Of the nine arrested only Anne's father returned.
