Augmented Reality and Video Games
Abstract
This paper is about views in Augmented Reality and video games. The advancements of entertainment and types of games with Augmented Reality are presented. These topics are then analyzed by the technology usage, and genre.
Augmented Reality is an interactive experience of a real-world environment where the objects that reside in the real-world are "augmented" by computer-generated perceptual information, sometimes across multiple sensory modalities, including visual, auditory, haptic, somatosensory, and olfactory [1]. Video Games are viewed in the world of Augmented Reality as the best out of all Augmented Reality applications. Video Games are recognized for constantly bringing new technology to the eye, and the game industry huge and is always expanding and it is attracting an enormous number of consumers [2]. This is why the majority of work in both Augmented Reality and research and industry are focused in making games. Augmented Reality is very commonly confused with Virtual Reality. Virtual Reality is somewhat the opposite of Augmented Reality. Virtual Reality puts actual person in the real world into a virtual world, instead of putting virtual objects in the real world.
There is a specific type of game called entertainment games. Entertainment games are computer games where the purpose is to provide entertainment to the player. Entertainment and player enjoyment is the goal computer games were created for. The purpose of having a separate genre very obvious when it is compared to new domain games called serious games. Serious games are mean games with a purpose. This section lists some of the most well known entertainment Augmented Reality games created.
