The American Dream to many people is achieving something that you deemed impossible. To many people the American Dream is getting something you have worked your whole life for. Each person interpretation of the American dream is different. Mostly it is materialistic and glutinous in nature, surprising each person earn this truth only through hardships.
Jay Gatsby is one of the most well-known fictional characters. His life always is held back by one dream he can’t achieve. His dream is being with Daisy Buchanan, a girl he has been in love with for years. He met her before the war but lost contact after and she married while he was away. To Gatsby the American dream is quite a large dream. His dream he has had for a long time is to eventually be with Daisy and live happily. In his pursuit of his dream he meets Daisy again, gets her to love him, but in the end Daisy ultimately goes with Tom "Your wife doesn't love you, She's never loved you. She loves me.". Jay Gatsby never really achieved the American dream but his quest for his showed how he just wanted to be with someone who truly loves him for who he is not his money or his fame. Throughout the story you learn that he throws the most extravagant parties just with the hope that Daisy will come just once. Ever since he met Daisy he has dreamed about being with her, and he was willing to risk everything for her.
Jason Redman is a true American hero and has had one main goal his life. His whole life he has tried to achieve the American dream. The American dream to Jason is doing something for his country and having his country do something for him. After the war, his country gave back to him by giving him the ability to spread his story.
