Bio Reactions
The bio-reactions that I have experienced are flight, fight, and freeze.
One cold winter night, I was at home on call for the Critical Care Unit of my hospital. My husband and both boys had already gone to bed. I cleaned up the kitchen after baking chocolate chip cookies for everyone. Next, I decided to watch some television and relax on the sofa before going to bed. While lying on the sofa, I heard what sounded like the tires of a vehicle bouncing on the ground. At that moment, I heard the loudest crashing noise that I had ever heard in my life. Although I wasn't sure what had taken place yet, I knew that something had crashed into my home. I experienced the bio-reaction of flight. Instead of running away from the crash as most people would do during the flight reaction, I had to run toward it because my husband was asleep in the master bedroom and this is where the crash was heard. I instantly started shaking because I didn't know what I was going to encounter once I arrived in my master bedroom. My heart was beating so fast as if it was going to jump outside of my chest. I was also breathing quickly and my eyes were open very wide because of the fear of the unknown. Just as I was running down my hallway toward my bedroom, I saw my husband running towards me. We hugged and were elated that we were both unharmed. Together, we continued back into our bedroom and turned on the lights. We could not believe our eyes. There was a car in our master bedroom. A drunken teenager had crashed her car into our bedroom and my husband was physically thrown out of our bed into the bathroom during the impact. He was fortunate to have survived but did experience terrible nightmares until we moved out of that home. I, on the other hand, am alive today because I decided to bake cookies for my family that night.
While walking in my backyard one afternoon, I stepped into a huge ant mound. After looking down at my feet and realizing that both feet were covered in red ants, I frantically began swatting them off of my feet and legs.
