They are basically rickshaw pullers, daily wage laborers, domestic servants, vegetable vendors, hawkers etc. Monthly income of a family is between Rs.4000 and Rs.5000, the size of the family being large with 7-8 members.NEED OF THE PROJECT:The Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) aim at freeing people of the world from extreme poverty and multiple deprivations, thereby reducing disparity among the nations of the world and among different strata of society of a nation. Promoting gender equality and empowering women is one of the objectives of the MDGs. Meeting of the Goals' target and indicator has a direct link with slum education. Rising income and increased economic growth of a Nation is not the only indicator of development but will also contribute to education and literacy which is also very important for development of a nation and the society. On a global level, reducing world disparity has become an important strategy today. This can be achieved by first reducing the disparity in different segments of the society. Literacy is one of the most important attributes for social development. Mother is the first teacher of a child. A woman who knows about health, hygiene and education improved the quality of life of her family. She also does a great service to the society by raising educated and responsible citizens. Unfortunately, In India women literary is only 54.16%. Beside this, women are the most vulnerable group of the society who are the victim of different type of abuses in each and every step of life.We conducted extensive surveys in this slum dwelling and found that making the women functionally literate alone will not give them the dignity and respect that they deserve. We should make them aware and empowered both educationally and economically. A woman faces discrimination; at her home, from womb to tomb. As matter of fact, gender-based discrimination and societal behaviour leading...
