It's September 2010. He sneaks into the house undetected. She's yanked out of bed, by her hair, from a dead sleep. She begins to scream for help as she is beaten, kicked, and bloodied. The only other people that are home are her 3 children, who have woken and ran to her room. They are frozen; all they can do is watch. The oldest child's name is Koraun. The ten-year-old takes on a role no child should have to, and makes a run to get help from the neighbor. Except, she doesn't believe him and refuses to call the police. Now he gathers up more courage, knowing all the while his mom could be dead at this point. What about his siblings?? He must get help! He runs to the guard gate and begs for that help. Finally, the police are called. (Rodgers) Eventually, his mom's bruises heal, his siblings weren't harmed, and the locks can be changed for safety. This horrible night can, with time, become a terrible distant memory, right? Except that the man who brutally attacked your mother is both your dad and Floyd "Money" Mayweather. Male athletes that commit domestic violence crimes should be held to at least the same standard as a typical offender because their celebrity status makes them infallible, and the sports institutions are not implementing strong codes of conduct.
Floyd "Money" Mayweather. Let that sink in a little bit. What kind of guy is that cocky to coin the term "Money" as part of his villain persona. What kind of guy brings bank-banded cash to every event or appearance he attends to show off abundant wealth, beyond what anyone else around him could possibly have? Katie Couric once asked Mayweather about his past. He said, "I'm black, I'm rich, and I am outspoken. Those are 3 strikes there. Did I restrain a woman that was on drugs? Yes, I did. If they say that's domestic violence, then I'm guilty of restraining a person." (Raissman) During the hype leading up to the Mayweather versus Pacquiao fight, there were a lot of talks, not only about who would win but the reasons people were making those decisions. Considering Mayweather was already the villain, that ultimately made Pacquiao the "good guy". The public knew what that really meant. He didn't beat his significant other. Plain and simple. In 2015 Pacquio's trainer said, "his fighter had added motivation because Manny is really fighting against domestic violence" (Raissman). However, that did not stop Floyd's popularity from soaring even higher. He was the favorite. As of now, Floyd "Money" Mayweather has been charged 6 times for domestic violence. He served 2 months back in 2012 for the crime he committed in front of his precious children. He has, not even once, been disciplined by the Nevada Athletic Commission. Over fifty percent of his fights occurred in Nevada. Nothing. He is an athlete, therefore a celebrity, and ultimately above the law. I am pretty sure Koraun, nor his mom, feels like justice has been served. It is imperative that male athletes suffer not only criminal repercussi...
