Chiraq Analysis On How Is Effects Us - English 101 - Essay

676 words - 3 pages

“Chiraq”
The film “Chiraq” represent the segregation of African American people. It shows black people have lack of opportunities because of their race. If they apply for a job they are less likely to get hired because of the way society portrays black people. America in general focuses a lot on your race. When filling out papers one of the questions include “What is your race”, before asking about the level of education. This is a little racist. For example a white person is most likely to be picked for a job over an African American. This is mainly due to how the media describe them. It makes people feel as if they live in dangerous world even though they are in the same city. Graffiti on the walls in their neighborhood portray how they suffer every day. It just seem like they're living in a jungle and attack each other to survive. The south side itself is segregated, about 90% of the people there are black. This is due to the fact that no other race wants to live there, because of the violence.
On the south side the people don’t have anything to guide them. Most who get involved in gang action are orphans or have no family. They don’t have any role models in life to follow, so they lose track of their life and follow the wrong crowd. Troubled black people looking for help don't have any family members to turn to because they are either dead or refuse to help. Usually the mother and father guide the young child to a better life, but due to all the violence they might be dead, that means no guidance for the young ones to follow, except what they see in front of them, violence. Black people don’t have any culture to advise them on what to go after either.
The people on the south side are very different compared to other people's lives. The film represents their daily life routine. Every day in th...
