1581 words - 7 pages

The film Gattaca directed by Andrew Niccole, is about is about a man named Vincent Anton Freeman who was born or conceived naturally rather than the way babies are conceived in Gattaca, which is by genetic modification, to which most of the population has been genetically modified at birth which gives them major physical and mental advantages over the faith. In the film Gattaca the faith births or child of god are socially identified as invalids making them inferior to the people who have been genetically modified at birth making them valid and extremely superior to the invalids. As Vincent was naturally conceived he was born with a significant physical disability of a severe heart condition, which gave him a 99% chance of heart failure and a life expectancy of around 30 years old. Regardless to this, we see throughout the movie how Vincent manages to push the boundaries of his genetic makeup by breaking laws and having major physical surgery so he is able to use Jerome Eugene Morrow, who is a perfect candidate for space travel as he has perfect genetics. We see at the end of the movie how he achieves his childhood goal of space travel regardless of the tremendous difficulties he has had to overcome. Vincent Anton Freeman proves to us how anything is possible if you want it well enough.

In this scene from the film Gattaca, we see how it is when Vincent Freeman and Anton Freeman, who are brothers, finally meet up after years and years, Due to Vincent leaving his family. This scene opens up with an extreme close up of the blood scanner, which allows valid personal to enter Gattaca. We hear his footsteps and then we see how he scans his finger and the light goes green, this signifies how he has beaten the system and has got into Gattaca regardless to his invalid genetics. We then hear his footsteps and then see a long shot of Vincent entering the navigation room via the glass double doors. This further expresses his achievement of beating the system, as he shouldn’t be allowed to enter the navigation room, yet he has. After we see a high angle tracking shot from Vincent as he walks down the path to Anton who is sitting down at Vincent’s desk. This makes Anton look small and makes us think how Vincent has finally got up and above his brother in something as it seems Vincent has ended up achieving more than Anton has. We understand this furthermore as Vincent is closing in on his dream of going to space within days, yet Anton is just a Police detective and would not be allowed to go to space. We hear a slow consistent yet intense song being played in the background while Vincent walks towards Anton. This music creates the intensity that Vincent would be feeling as he isn’t sure what to do as he assumes Anton knows his true identity as his brother. We then see Anton stand up from the desk and look up to Vincent saying, “my god you have changed” this shows the amazement and disbelief that Anton is feeling, we also see how he is jealous of Vinc...
