Communications - I have excellent communication skills and am able to develop effective relationships with clients, colleagues and outside organizations and agencies. I have worked abroad and gained considerable knowledge of varied work practices and have learnt different ways of communicating with people of all nationalities. As Operations Duty Manager, I am responsible for providing detailed, accurate reports and operating plans to employees, contractors and agencies. I talk to people of all levels, from non-Management to Departmental Managers and Vice Presidents.Team building -- My role in the Operations team requires my team to be flexible, alert and informative as we have many customers who require up to date and reliable information for them to do their jobs. I ensure my people are trained and up to date in American's systems, policies and procedures. I delegate and encourage the team to be flexible, open minded and considerate to our customers and colleagues alike. My duties are also to liaise with American Airlines customers such as the BAA, Crew Hotels, Catering, Fuellers, Cleaners, HM Customs, Crew Transportation, Police and Air Traffic Control. I have helped build an outstanding and productive relationship with them. I represent American frequently at meetings, familiarisation events and collaborative projects with organisations such as the National Air Traffic Services, Meteorological Office and British Airports Authority. I also liaise with Americans' crew bases, set up accommodation and deal with crewing issues, which can be challenging given the large number that we have overnighting (over five thousand a month). Work ethic - I have a strong work ethic and believe in leading by example. I expect a lot from myself and my team. I seek to improve and develop myself and others. I believe in treating people with respect and expect the team to do the same. I set goals and expect them to be achieved. I encourage people to be alert and conscientious as complacency can be costly in our industry. I have received many commendations during my employment including a hand written letter from the Chief Executive Officer. I believe it is important to recognise others hard work and to reward positive performance.
