Academic Response to College
Change! Always longed for but not necessarily always easy! With change; a new home, a new country, a new job, a new friend, a new routine etc., comes many challenges and sometimes obstacles which one needs to learn to cope with or overcome.
“College” by Ansia Yezierska was an interesting short read expressing the author’s personal experience moving to another country to attend college. I was drawn to this story from the very beginning, since the general concept is something I personally can relate to. Reading the narrator’s experience and comparing it to my very own experience where I felt the same excitement towards a big move from one country to another for college and the change it will bring in my life. I enjoyed reading it to the very end and comparing every step of the narrator’s experience to my very own.
The imagery expressed in the story of the beauty the eye sees from this change: the new buildings, landscaping, people, cleanliness, laughter, silence, peace are all the very same beautiful things I saw when I moved to Canada to continue my education. As beautiful as all these things were and as happy as I was to be surrounded by all these positive factors, I had concerns and fears. Fears of fitting in and making friends, asking myself if I will be accepted by the this new community, asking myself if I will be able to adjust to the different...
