Summative
Art is a way to express ideas that include rebelling or honoring one's country. Ai
Weiwei is a chinese artist who has been highly critical of the chinese government's stance on
human rights. He has been harassed by the police and sent to jail multiple times. However, that
hasn't stopped him from continuing to share his ideas to the world. Ai Weiwei shares his opinion
on his country, China, through his art. Ai Weiwei rebels his chinese culture because of the
limited human rights the chinese citizens have, and the government corruption.
Ai Weiwei is known for his voice in human rights. The same way he uses his voice in his
art to show how he rebels his country's human rights. For instance, his painting “6Detail from
SACRED” shows Ai Weiwei at his house while these men, who seem to be from the
government, are following him around. Also in the painting on the top right corner there is a
camera placed on the ceiling. This means that Ai weiwei was being watched over, sort of like
he's in prison. To add on “7 Detail from SACRED” continues the storyline, through a painting.
In this paining Ai Weiwei is sleeping while the officers still stand around him. The room is pretty
empty and he has very limited clothes. These two paintings show that Ai Weiwei is rebelling his
culture because he doesn't have the human rights which every citizen deserves to have. He has...
