English Story

1221 words - 5 pages

Chapter 1:
What is your immediate reaction to the characters?
My reaction to the characters is that Tom is a very insecure and fearful person, as he didn't want anyone to know what happened in his old town. Tom is caring because he cares for his sister in some respect when she was crying and had her undies showing which he could of just let her be embarrassed but decided to help her.

My reaction to Daniel is that he is a bit of a jerk and is very interested in girls because it is mentioned that he gets whomever he wants and ends relationships whenever he wants and he has to be in control. Daniel is also highly aggressive because he was even feared by his own parents and also Claire the only girlfriend that he liked.

My reaction to Toms father is that he is a good coach towards his two sons in rugby and is also thoughtful towards his family. My reaction to Tom's uncle Brendan is that he was friendlier with Daniel but is starting to form a relationship with Tom.

My reaction to Tom's grandmother is very religious and gives a sense of hostility towards Tom's family. Tom's grandmother is straight forward and thinks the way the Tom's mother is reacting in a bad way and is trying to sought her out.

My first reaction to Fin is that he is a caring and sensitive person towards because even though Daniel is trying to hurt him he is still sensitive towards him. Since the accident Tess has become neglectful to her family and has got her self into a deep depression and only shows interest towards Daniel.

Kylie is a teenager who is very angry because of her brother's tragedy that is constantly affecting her. Kylie is emotionally fragile and shows resentment and disliking in everything.

What do you think about the way that Gran reacts to Tom's mothers behaviour?
I think that Tom's grandmother reacts to Tom's mother's behaviour in a bad way because she believes it is unacceptable and inappropriate. Tess is acting in such a manner where she is no longer caring for her family and only for Daniel and she has fallen into depression.

What do you predict will happen in this story?
I predict that Tom's family will eventually go back to the way they were before and when Daniel gets released hopefully he would have learnt his lesson and realised the impact he had put on his family.

Chapter 2:
Why does Kylie react in the way she does? Is she simply being uncaring, or are there more reasons why she would say this to Tom?
I believe that Kylie is reacting the way she is, is because she has been highly impacted by what Daniel has done. I also think that she is somewhat jealous of her brothers as she says that they always got away with everything because of their football skills. I think Kylie said 'tell someone who cares, Tom' because she had a bad day at school and was nervous. Kylie is also very on edge and is keeping her feelings bottled up which could possibly be the reason why she is acting this way.
