Physics is considered as the backbone of the world. Physics is interesting. Physics helps us to understand how the world around us works. Physics helps us to organize the universe. It deals with fundamentals, and helps us to see the connections between seemly dissimilar phenomena. Physics gives us powerful tools to help us to express our creativity, to see the world in new ways and then to change it. Physics is useful. Physics provides quantitative and analytic skills needed for analyzing data and solving problems in the sciences, engineering and medicine, as well as in economics, finance, management, law and public policy. Physics is the basis for most modern technology, and for the tools and instruments used in scientific, engineering and medical research and development. Manufacturing is dominated by physics-based technology. Majoring in physics provides excellent preparation for graduate study not just in physics, but in all engineering and information/computer science careers.
Through various activities, I have expanded my understanding of physics through the standoff of various problems that could only be solved with the knowledge of physics. For example, robotics has taken me through many situations where physics came in hand. In robotics, inertia affects the machine by controlling how much force they can exert and take. Reactions can affect robots as well by creating motion and allowing work to be done with some force. I used these laws of motion and applied them to the robot’s design and program to allow the robot to pick up objects and drop them elsewhere at an efficient speed. Time and rate has also fallen in with robotics. I applied its formula to the speed of the drive train and the rate of the different motors on the robot. When it comes to mass, knowing each materials’ mass made the robot lighter, capable of much more. Another material property that involved physics is when calculation the strength of the structural materials for the variables of the solution. Some robots need to be more durable than others so strength principles can apply to this situation. Robotics has given me numerous opportunities to help me achieving gaining more knowledge of physics.
Physics is crucial to understanding the world around us, the world inside us, and the world beyond us. It is the most basic and fundamental science. Physics challenges our imaginations with concepts like relativity and string theory, and it leads to great discoveries, like computers and lasers, that lead to technologies which change our lives—from healing joints, to curing cancer, to developing sustainable energy solutions. In the careers I’m looking into, aerospace engineering and mechanical engineering, physics is the past, present and future for those careers. Learning physics will benefit my future while leading me to the future. Through focused study of physics, applying them to my goals will be valuable to my career options and my future education.
